Sofía Ibargüengoitia (Mexico City, 1984) is a visual artist trained in theater at the National School of Theater Arts (INBA), Architecture at UNAM, and holds a Master's Degree in Visual Arts from the same university. Her practice is rooted in painting and expands from there: into object, body, space and theater — territories she treats not as additions but as part of a single language.

She has exhibited in Mexico City, New York, Milan and Barcelona, at venues including the Usagi Gallery, the National Museum of Art and the Museu Europeu d'Art Modern (MEAM).

In 2019 and 2021 she received the Certificate of Artistic Achievement from the Luxemburg Art Prize.

In 2019 she presented "The Incomplete Colors of Mexico" at the Sebastián Foundation in Mexico City, a solo exhibition of paintings on wooden canvases that transform into chairs — works that as objects receive you and as canvases reflect you. That same year she created

"Black Sheep", a large-format piece (5×3 meters) for the Solitude Collection of the Sebastián Foundation, a collection of nearly sixty works brought together by the Mexican sculptor Sebastián.

Her most recent solo exhibition, "Don't Follow Me, I Am Also Lost" (2025), is perhaps the clearest synthesis of that journey: eighteen paintings and a sculptural installation that becomema stage for actors, movement, light and music. An experiment in which the painted work

transforms its condition as an object of contemplation and asserts itself as a body with a presence of its own.
